Return of The Lost Fawn

Posted 1 month ago :: Last edited 3 weeks ago by Herboreal

The LOst Fawn

One bright and sunny spring day, a group of fawns was playing out in the flower fields of Tuil. At some point, one of them went missing! Word of mouth spread quickly to all the elkh in the area to keep an eye out for a lost fawn, and so everyone was tasked with searching both the village and the surrounding fields and forest to find the young elkh! Reportedly, the other fawns did see a strange sight though... a  group of pollen packers carrying off a massive load of pollen?! Was that pollen ball fawn sized?! (Note that you can draw any elkh participating in this event regardless of where they're located!)

Pollen packers are wild and fluffy creatures that dine on pollen. They roll up collected pollen into a ball and carry it back to their homes to store for leaner months.

Rewards:

For every prompt, users will get standard prompt gildes, a random pollen packer companion, and a raffle ticket to enter for the lost fawn design. The winner will be able to choose from a set of color palettes for Herboreal to complete the final design. Details can be found on the prompt itself.

Herboreal Commissions/Customs Update

Commissions have obviously been open scarcely this year due to my health issues. I am finding less time and energy to work. In order to be kinder to myself, I am discontinuing the ping list and "first come first served" commissions in favor working from google forms. The forms will be linked in the Bep discord anytime I open commissions. Users send in their requests for commissions and I choose based on what I feel up to working on/what suits my abilities. This means some requests may be skipped. I know this is a big change and I appreciate grace as I continue to navigate balancing my health issues with serving the group.

-Timbre

Sono Races and Goodie Bags!

Posted 3 months ago :: Last edited 2 months ago by Nopalrabbit

Sonoelkh Races 2024

Sonoelkh all over Miatias have been practicing all year for this year's sono race! Sign up your sonoelkh and complete tasks for your elkh to compete in the big race! Each task gets you closer to the goal!

Casa Climb

Casa sonos, with their short legs, are not built to run fast or for long distances. What they are good at is nimbly climbing steep surfaces! A course has been created on the mountainside near Tama, with bright pennant markers to indicate the course direction.

how to participate

Players may enter their Miatian elkh into Sono Races (for Sonoelkh and sonoelkh-hybrids) and The Casa Climb (for Casa Sonos and casa sono-hybrids). Players may enter either race, or both, up to 4 characters total. The race is run by randomly generated dice rolls (4 sided).  For each "Task" you complete your character gets 1 dice roll. You may only complete 4 tasks total, but if you complete all 4, you get a bonus roll (5 rolls total).

The first task is to Get Your Number! Please Reply to THIS COMMENT and state which character(s) you'd like to sign up and for which race they will be in. A mod will then add you to our spreadsheet where we will keep track of the racer's completed tasks. The Racer's number will be thir ML number (but feel free to draw/write them with different a dfferen number if you wish). The races are for non-magical elkh (no aiti), hybrids are allowed but the character should be a resident of the southern continent of Miatias!

To complete more Tasks you can submit prompts, which will award you more dice rolls in the race. There is a variety of prompts with different requirements (many do not require backgrounds). You may only do up to three prompts for each racer (however, you may repeat the same prompt if you have multiple racers.)  The prompts are titled "Sono Races" but are for both Sono Races and Casa Climb. When submitting prompts please remember to add your racer to the prompt submission under "characters" (Do not add any other characters, even if they appear in the prompts, this is so the mods know who to award the task to.)

The Sono races and Casa Climb prompts will be available to do from Friday March 1st to Saturday March 30th. The day after the event ends (Sunday March 31) Nopal will run the races live in our discord chat!

Beast Trials Wrap-Up: New Features!

Posted 3 months ago :: Last edited 3 months ago by Nopalrabbit

Meridias and the return of Habapi Magics

Having learned how to heal corruption from the mages of Lunerest, the Aitielkh gathered around Meridias and purged her of the corruption as well as woke her from her magic-induced slumber. Thankfully, the dragon was powerful enough that the corruption was not permanent. Before even speaking, Meridias looked around and spotted the Habapi on the fringes of the corrupted area and her lithe form glided over in an instant. Tatera was quickly apprehended.

"I didn't do anything!" she gasped. Meridias brought her face down close and examined the little habapi, then rose her head up once more, squinting, and released her. Though she resembled someone Meridias once knew, and was wearing their bracelet, this was clearly not the same habapi.

"I see many years have passed since your descendants betrayed me, failed to heed my warnings, and tried to extract more power than they needed from the crystal."

Habapi and Elkh alike looked taken aback. After around 300 years, and with the habapi losing most of their magic and culture, the information was lost to time. Tatera, descended from the last leaders of the habapi, had some awareness and knew this reckoning was at hand, but she stayed, knowing it had to be faced. She stood up and dusted off, boldly facing Meridias but also trembling.

"On behalf of my ancestors, I am sorry. I hope that we can once again earn your goodwill and guidance by making things right once more."

The other nearby habapi looked around in confusion. What work were they expected to do, and how? They were not even aware of just how much of a shadow they were of their once powerful people.

"We'll talk later. Right now, we have to repair the crystal, and, My Children, you are clearly in no state to assist."

Being referred to as Meridias' children immediately choked Tatera with tears as the massive dragon turned and walked away. Things might be okay after all!

Meridias spoke with Vesper and the other aitielkh for some time before they all focused efforts on healing the crystal. The habapi watched from the surrounding jungle, murmuring amongst eachother, and then falling quiet as they started to feel something strange. Though this generation had never experienced having the level of magic their ancestors did, they knew: their magic was returning to them!

And then...

Once the crystal was repaired, the Habapi were fully healed. However, they had centuries of knowledge to recover, relationships to repair (with Meridias and now the Aitielkh), and moreover, they had no idea how to use their magic. It will take time and work for each Habapi to explore the ruins of their old home and uncover the story of their past and re-learn their capabilities. They can more easily spend time in bipedal form, and many more exciting possibilities are opening up for them now!

See Meridias' updated Figure page here.
(Complete with adornments given and placed upon her by habapi!)
See Tatera here.

Results:

  • Habapi Ruins prompts are now unlocked
  • habapi crystal traits are now unlocked
  • Habapi crafting is now unlocked
  • Habapi breeding is now unlocked
  • Habapi magic (???) is coming
  • Habapi who learn magic can participate in Beast Trials
  • Habapi constructs (???) are coming in the future
  • Habapi storylines can be found here
  • The corruption plaguing Silkkassa should now be sealed within the crystal

Habapi Breeding

You can now breed Habapi using a Habapi Breeding Ticket, available in the General Shop. The resulting design is insta-grown, so no need to worry about an in-between "fawn" stage for this species. Habapi Breeding will use similar mechanics to bep breeding (rolled in the discord by Nopal) but some things will be different. The player may pick two kept traits when submitting the breeding, however they cannot pick Habapi Crystal traits as one of their two traits. Habapi Crystal traits (see more below) can be inheritable by chance (RNG) unless either both parents have the trait or the player uses a "Blessed Bead" breeding item to automatically pass the trait down.

New Habapi Traits

Base traits

There are new nose and pupil traits available now! Find the visual trait index here.

Crystal Traits

Crystal traits are now available via crafting! Some recipes are automatically unlocked; others will need to be unlocked by doing prompts. All will require using crafting materials which will be obtainable via prompts immediately (as well as via the advent calendar this month), with other options available in the future. Crystal traits work a little differently than Aiti Rare traits and Restricted traits so be sure to read the specifics on the encyclopedia! More Habapi Crystal Trait recipes will be introduced in the future via prompts, events and beast trials.

(a habapi with metallic horns)

Habapi Crafting

Crafting will be added to the navigation soon; for now, you can find the page here.
With the crafting feature, players can now collect crafting materials and bring them together to make new items using recipes! We're excited for all the possibilities of this feature for the game as a whole, starting with crafting Habapi Crystal Traits!

Habapi ruins prompts

After healing Meridias and the corruption she faced, the habapi felt their magic powers coming back, but had no knowledge of how to use it! With the southen dragon's encouragement the habapi returned to their old home deep in the jungle to find secrets of their past culture. Meridias and Tatera explained to the habapi that the little stone runes they found scattered about the jungle and the habapi's old collapsed home were known as Crafting Runes, and that they can store and amplify the habapi's inert magical ability.

Along the ruins, many habapi found funny glass disks, a little smaller than the size of a habapi hand. The disks featured twisted dyed rope, though many were missing rope due to passing of time, and a large hole in the middle. Nearly naked to the eye, super fine etching can be seen along the surface of these disks.

Tatera explained that these were called called records by their ancestors, and that they hold information however she did not know how to retrieve the information off of them. With her giant claw Meridias showed the little habapi how the records work, that they could be placed in the air with magic, and how once placed, the record would project written information on a surface, such as a wall, rock or the ground. These records are strewn all over the ruins and the Habapi must return to gather and clean up the mess they left behind.

Watch out for updates while the Habapi's past unfolds and more prompts are added!

New Aiti Rare Traits

Two new aiti rare traits have been released! Metallic Fur, which gives the overall coat of the aiti a metallic sheen (obtained via Aiti rare potion) and Shaped Pupil, which allows the pupil to becomes any (world/lore appropriate) shape ex: moon, leaf, heart, etc. (Obtained via Small aiti rare potion)

A quick note on new features

Nopal and I have been a bit under the weather for a few months, so we're more behind than we would like on things. Some features involving Habapi may come sporadically, including later this month or at future dates. We appreciate your patience as we slowly flesh this species out!

Crafting is also brand-new, so it may need some things worked out, such as balancing crafting materials needed for recipes. You may see the number of materials needed fluctuate as we feel out what is most balanced for players.

MotA: The Dragon and the Corruption Crystal

Posted 5 months ago :: Last edited 4 months ago by Herboreal

The Dragon and the Corruption crystal

After the world reconnected with the Habapi in the Matsana Jungle, Vesper has left the aiti pool in the care of a group of trusted aitielkh and traveled to the depths of the Jungle in search of answers to the troubles Aitielkh have been facing. Meridias, The Southern Dragon, has been guarding the crystal for hundreds of years, but the crystal has long since been breached. Taking in the scene of a sleeping dragon covered in corruption injuries, wrapped around giant crystals in a massive barren area, it's clear now: the corruption plaguing Silkkassa and Miatias originates here. Aitielkh from all over are being summoned to work together to heal the massive dragon in the hopes she might know the key to restoring the corruption sealing crystal, and might relay what happened in the first place.

The habapi nervously look on from the surrounding jungle; Tatera, a descendant of the former leaders is shaking with fear...

-Aitielkh fawns do not yet sport a flowercrown or pattern, so please omit them from your design until they are grown.

Gilde Traits are now UC/R Traits

This month, we're consolidating gilde traits into Rare Traits and Uncommon Traits. The site and game have changed over time, and gilde traits just didn't really fit anymore. Furthermore, the prices of rare & uncommon potions are the same as gilde trait potions, so it just made sense! The traits are still available; they're just alongside all the others now! If you have gilde trait potions in your inventory, you may resell them from your inventory or use them as R/UC traits by attaching them to a MYO design!

Heldigs Charm

Introducing a new breeding item: Heldigs Charm! Heldig, the "god of luck", is often given offerings in the community discord when fawns are rolled, as users hope to get good luck in their elkh passing down desirable traits. We're making Restricted Traits more obtainable via breeding using this charm. Present this charm with your breeding claim to get a 50% chance of your choice of restricted trait being passed on to the fawn.

The number of charms able to be used on a breeding is limited only by the number of restricted traits the parents have, but they can only be applied to each restricted trait once. For example, if the parents have 5 different restricted traits, you may use 5 charms and each restricted trait will have a 50% chance of being passed down. You may not use more than 1 charm on 1 trait (in other words, if the roll fails to pass down the trait, you cannot keep using charms until you get a success; there is only one chance).

You can find Heldigs Charm in the Crystal Gilde Shop.

All current and new members of the Patreon will get a free Heldigs Charm this month!

Hollygiving 2023, All aboard to Kutoa!

Posted 5 months ago :: Last edited 5 months ago by Herboreal

Hollygiving

The snow is falling and the candles in homes are lit. There's magic and yule spirit in the air!

The Story of Hollygiving

Bepotelkh may give out bundles of holly leaves and berries to other beps they think deserve them for doing a good deed or even just brightening their day some time in the last year. This is done in the name of the mysterious Spirit of Yule, an indescribable creature or force that embodies the magic of Yule and encourages reflection and new beginnings. It's said that the Spirit chooses some lucky beps each year on which to bestow some gifts, and that these gifts are presented by the equally mysterious Gifting Stag. The Gifting Stag is said to be a bepotelkh with flaming yellow eyes, growing in power in late December and appearing on the edge of forest clearings and the outskirts of villages. His antlers are draped in silver cone bells.

When a bep receives a bundle of holly, a human friend ties it to one of their antlers. To humans, bep antlers covered in holly are seen as a good luck charm. Beps who lose an antler (or both) while still wearing holly may choose to give one of those antlers to their caretaker or another important human in their life. These decorated antlers can be seen on doors and village gates. With wild and free beps, this tradition is similar, but instead of humans tying the holly on, they have to get the help of other wild creatures like shroomkin! In villages, holly bundles for giving are handed out to beps by their village ambassadors. In the wilds, beps must find holly bushes to snip bundles from with their teeth.

Instructions

  • Choose one of your elkh to give holly to other characters. Your elkh can give holly bundles to any characters on the Bepotelkh, Shroomkin and Humans masterlists.
  • You may use up to 15 of your own elkh to give out holly (a max total of 45 bundles). Please do not use more than 15 elkh.
  • Each of your elkh may give out 3 holly bundles to 3 different characters (but please choose active users)!
    • You may, in ONE instance, have one of your beps give a holly bundle to another of your beps! (we decided this was too cute story-wise to be overlooked, but again, only once and with one bep!)
  • Comment on this news post with the name and masterlist number of your elkh, and then write out the names of the characters as well as the owner's name in the comment. (no need to link characters, just please remember to add the usernames!) Example:

You can write out story snippets along with your hollygiving or

Just simply list the names of the characters and their owner/s

NOTE: To help out the mods, please either give the holly to three different users, or all three to one user.

  • A moderator will send the holly currency to the recipients you chose.
  • Holly currency can then be spent at the Yule Shop, where you will find Gudvin has all kinds of gift boxes!
  • The gift boxes each enter you into a different raffle. See the below image to learn what you're entering for and buy the corresponding box.
  • Open the raffle ticket box to be entered into the raffle!
  • The last day to give holly is December 25th!
  • The hollygiving raffle will be rolled on December 27th and winners will be contacted on the same day.
  • If we get a high number of entries, we will increase the number of winners for each raffle!
  • You can enter all the raffles as many times as you want!

BT Wrap-up! New Magic! Autumnfound Continues!

Posted 6 months ago :: Last edited 5 months ago by Herboreal

ULPUKKA SUBDUED

Aitielkh willing to brave the dark and damp gathered in Glimworm Gulch to subdue Ulpukka. Returned to her former self, she vanished once again into the depths of the bog. Not all walked away unscathed, though; some elkh left the scene forever cursed. Whether they see this as a boon or an embarrassment is up to the individual, but regardless, these special elkh can now breathe underwater! It seems that ambassador Juhla was one such elkh. Though he seems a bit sheepish about it, it seems like he may enjoy his new abilities as he jumps from the docks of Glimworm Gulch, living life to the fullest as always.

You can see Juhla's kelpie-cursed form on his masterlist entry by clicking "IMAGES".

Everyone who participated will receive a Lv2 beast box as the group made the goal! Great work, everyone!

See WORLD >WORLD MAP >FIGURES >UKPUKKA
see BROWSE >NPCS >NPC-029: Juhla >Images

New magic is creeping in...

Introducing Shadow Step and Earth Sense!

New magic abilities have been discovered by aititelkh deep in their magic training. Will your aitielkh learn Shadow Step becoming master of shadows, turning into a shadow at will and unlocking a mysterious teleportation skill? Or will your aitielkh learn Earthsense and be able to use magic to communicate differently with the world around them, even seeing into into the past?

These new magics are ready to be learned through new Aitielkh Magic Trials! Read more in-depth about the new magic abilities over at the encyclopedia.

See WORLD >PROMPTS >AITIELKH MAGIC TRIALS

AUTUMNFOUND PROMPTS (last month!)

Autumnfound Prompts are still open for submissions! There are options for domestic elkh, wild elkh, aitielkh and shroomkin! We have also brought back the special Samhain Night shroomkin prompt! All prompts will be awarded acorns which can be turned in for gildes (1:1) at any time!

See WORLD > PROMPTS >Limited Prompts to find the Autumnfound prompts.

ODDS & ENDS

  • The Featured Character is updated on the front page!
  • There's a new Daily Calendar!
  • We have updated the rule about breeding with mysterious carvings. When you roll fawns with a mysterious carving the combination trait you choose will now only count as one of your kept traits, instead of both. When you use the carving please still mention which traits you want to combine in the comment of the breeding claim. You may also use two mysterious carvings now (or more if you include resin incense on the claim). The design guide has been updated to reflect the rule change.
  • Autumnfound continues this month! You can still do the Scavenger Hunt (see previous news post) and Autumnfound prompts to earn acorns to spend in the Autumnfound Shop! The shop closes Dec 1st, so get your purchases in now! Remember you can turn in your acorns for gildes 1:1 anytime by sending in a claim with the amount of acorns you wish to trade in.

Beast Trials Fall 23: Ulpukka!

Posted 8 months ago :: Last edited 5 months ago by Herboreal

ULPUKKA'S Corruption

[artwork by Erose]

Ambassador Juhla's ear twitches as he picks out a sound in the distance. He's standing on a boardwalk in Glimworm Gulch after sunset, the cool air carrying the scent of autumn decay. The evening noises that surround him are jovial voices in conversation, some laughing, glasses of libations being set on tables, silverware on plates. But he hears something odd out in the bog, and begins slowly trotting away from the village to investigate.

The sounds of his home fade into the distance as he approaches the strange sound's origin. Orbs of swamp gas, emitted by the mouths of Lantern Salamanders, hang in the air, lighting the way. The water is rippling in an unusual way for the typically still bog, until suddenly, a massive elkh-like creature bursts forth from a ring of lilypads, shrieking in a ghastly bugle.

Many of the creatures who've become corrupted in recent years have been followers of Aiti who are generally well-meaning and simply need some help. Ulpukka is more of an ambivalent creature; neither "good" nor "bad".  There's a local legend in Glimworm Gulch that a bep once drowned in the bog, having walked too far out into the bog on a cold night and becoming entangled in pondweeds. That bep returned as what is now known as a kelpie, with glassy, empty eyes, waterweeds tangled in her mane, overgrown hooves, and a ghostly bugle. It's said that Ulpukka is responsible for the creation of Lantern Salamanders; creatures who silently release orbs of swamp gas that light the night, keeping other elkh from wandering too far across the bog mats at night.

She's usually a frightening but harmless presence in the bogs, and very rarely encountered, but the mysterious corruption that continues to plague Silkkassa has reached Ulpukka's domain.

Juhla moves to run for help, but is quickly trapped in the thrall of the bugling creature and slowly begins walking toward the bog. His human friends, noticing he's been gone for some time now, begin to grow increasingly concerned as other elkh begin wandering slowly toward the bog, seemingly in a trance. Now wise to the more magical happenings in Silkkassa, humans of Glimworm Gulch set out to find an aitielkh to consult about this new disturbance, and before long, aitielkh from all over are gathering once again to quell and heal another creature. Join in this Beast Trial with your aitielkh to earn Beast Boxes with special prizes! As always, if the group collectively meets the goal, every participant will receive an extra Lv2 Beast Box at the end of the event and Ulpukkas uncorrupted artwork will be added to the figures page!

See WORLD > PROMPTS > LIMITED PROMPTS > BEAST TRIALS

Kelpie's Curse

Elkh who encounter Ulpukka may be subject to Kelpie's Curse: a trait which "curses" the elkh to live with a kelpie form which allows them to breathe and swim underwater. In its most extreme appearance, the form includes milky eyes that are missing an iris, glowing pupils, upper tusks, waterweeds in the mane and/or tail, and a greenish appearance overall (we use a 40% color layer with a subdued green).
This form has several options:
-A permanent kelpie appearance (strong curse)
-A semi-permanent kelpie apperance which only occurs when the bep touches water (weaker curse)
-A mixed kelpie appearance where the bep's base form includes an upper tusk (if not already present) and semi-milky eyes (weaker curse). They may still look further kelpie-like when they touch water.
You're free to apply this trait to any bep and decide which option fits your character. Some kelpie-cursed beps (or.. "belpies") may appear typical until they touch water, leading them to try to hide their condition. Others may embrace their new abilities!

You may submit an additional masterlist image of your elkh's kelpie form as an image update if you wish but it is not required when applying the kelpie's curse potion. This potion can be applied to any type of elkh or aitielkh; aitielkh have more control over the curse than regular elkh. In-canon this gives your elkh the ability to breathe and swim underwater.

BEAST Boxes

The reward for participating in this event is a beast box! The level of box you recieve for a prompt correlates directly to the magic your aitielkh used in said prompt. Ritual boxes are gacha boxes with a chance of winning any one of the items inside of them. Chances are listed below.

Beast boxes include beast tokens as well! The amount you get corresponds to the level of beast box (lv 1 gets 1 token and so forth). The beast token shop will open October 1st and remains open through October 31st; you will be able to use your tokens to purchase the prizes unique to this event.

Recruitment Event

1 Fawn Roll Ticket
1 Rare Trait

The debris bunny is a wild creature from Rainsong Forest. Its greenish coloration helps it blend in with ground mosses.
