Fern Sprout
Matsana Jungle Eats

A baby jungle fern. When they're grown, they're so tough that humans have never considered them edible. Habapi, who live in the jungle, know that the center curl is delightfully crunchy, and the main stem hides a clear, jelly-like liquid that goes well with both sweet and savory dishes, especially eaten cold. Boiled, they're a little more controversial: some find the interior slimy, while others delight in the interplay of textures.
