Senegal found most superstitions to be stupid. If you were going to believe anything, you should at least have some physical proof of it having any connection with reality. When you partake in fire as your magic of choice, you often have to learn a lot about flames in all their mannerisms and forms. Bog fires were complex, and though there was fuel in specific spots that Jaakobah could pull from should he have the need, he still needed to be careful.
